The neighbourhood of Brooklands is part of the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, which is situated in the Greater Winnipeg metropolitan area.

Transportation

Brooklands is a fairly convenient part of Winnipeg for pedestrians; many daily errands can be run without the use of a vehicle. However, Brooklands is not especially bike-friendly as the cycling network is not very well-developed. Nevertheless, there are a limited number of hills to challenge cyclists. The car is usually the best transportation option in this part of Winnipeg. It is convenient to park, and it is a very short drive to the nearest highway from anywhere in Brooklands. In contrast, the public transit system in this area is not especially practical. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is linked by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most houses.

Services

Parents and their schoolchildren will value that wherever their home is situated in Brooklands, daycares and schools are close by. Families have the choice between public and private elementary schools. In terms of food, the nearest supermarket in Brooklands is usually only a short walk away. A limited number of restaurants can be found in Brooklands as well.

Character

Brooklands offers a slower-paced environment and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. Public green spaces are very easy to reach since there are a few of them close by for residents to unwind in. This area is also fairly good for those who enjoy a quiet atmosphere, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case near one of the railway lines.

Housing

The large proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of Brooklands is an important part of its character. The homes in this neighbourhood are quite old, because about 45% of its dwellings were constructed prior to the 1960s, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 2000s. This part of the city offers mainly three bedroom and two bedroom homes. About 70% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners whereas the remainder are rented.
