Shearwater is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is very often the best method of transportation in Shearwater. It is very convenient to find a parking spot. However, public transit users may have limited choices in this part of Halifax due to the service's low frequency. Nonetheless, the community is served by a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is generally very close. Although there is a quite high density of cyclists, Shearwater is not particularly bike-friendly since bicycling is made strenuous by the typically sloping terrain, and the bicycling infrastructure is fairly poor. It is also very difficult for people walking to get around in this part of Halifax as very few daily errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in Shearwater. Additionally, daycares are not numerous and accordingly not always within walking distance. Concerning food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is needed in Shearwater to reach the closest grocery store. However, a coffee shop is generally a rather short stroll away.

Character

Shearwater is a community to buy a house in for those who prefer a chill atmosphere. Shearwater can be rather noisy, as there can be a very large amount of noise from. Public green spaces aren't well-distributed, which results in them being sometimes hard to get to from numerous locations in this part of Halifax. Despite that, residents will be able to access parks in nearby communities.

The predominant housing types in Shearwater are single detached homes and row houses. This part of the municipality offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. About 80% of the population of this community rent their home and owners make up the remainder.
