Shannon Park

Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Shannon Park is a neighbourhood within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

The best method to get around in Shannon Park is usually a car. It is especially convenient to park, and many houses for sale are a very short car ride from the nearest highway. In contrast, Shannon Park is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, house owners benefit from a few bus lines, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. It is difficult for people walking to move around in Shannon Park since few common errands can be run on foot. The bicycle is a sometimes poor means of transportation in this part of the municipality as the bicycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive, and travelling by bike is made arduous by the typically sloping area.

Services

Primary schools are especially easy to walk to from most properties for sale in this part of Halifax. On the other hand, this part of the municipality does not contain any high schools. As far as food is concerned, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is required to do groceries. There are a limited number of options for those who appreciate restaurants in close proximity.

Character

Shannon Park is a reasonably good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. This part of the municipality is quiet, as the streets tend to be tranquil - although there are still several louder sections, especially closer to the railway line. Lastly, although this neighbourhood does not contain any parks, green spaces are especially well-distributed in nearby neighbourhoods, making them easy to reach from a lot of locations in Shannon Park.

Housing

Roughly 60% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home whereas owners make up the remainder. In this area, many dwellings are small apartment buildings, while single detached homes are the main housing type in the rest of the housing stock. Around 30% of properties in this part of the municipality were built between 1980 and 1990, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes.
