The community of Grand Lake can be found in the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

The preferred approach to get around in Grand Lake is usually driving. Parking is easy. This community is not very suitable for walking because almost no common errands can be run on foot. The bike is a rather limited means of transportation in Grand Lake as there are quite a few slopes, and there are very few bike lanes.

Services

This community does not contain any high schools or primary schools. Concerning food, home buyers in this part of Halifax almost always need a car to travel to the nearest supermarket.

Character

Grand Lake is a fairly good community to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced ambience. Grand Lake is reasonably quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Parks are distributed sporadically, which results in them being sometimes hard to get to from the majority of locations in the community. Despite that, there are a few public green spaces close by for residents to discover.

Housing

The substantial proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of Grand Lake is an important part of its character. This community offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 95% of the units in the community and the rest are rented. The buildings in this part of Halifax are quite new, since around one third of its dwellings were built following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
